The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is a family band consisting of seven blood brothers who began their musical training at the tender ages of four and five by their father, jazz trumpeter/band leader Kelan Phil Cohran (Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Sun Ra). Together they have toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, African and South America playing with a wide variety of artists including; Prince, Mos Def, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). They’ve performed at Coachella, WOMAD AU, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall.

Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Greenville, NC, contemporary jazz vocalist Christie N. Dashiell returned to hone her skills at Howard University and, later, at The Manhattan School of Music. Dashiell’s history includes performances with Howard’s premiere vocal jazz ensemble, Afro-Blue. She has also performed at the Kennedy Center as a participant of the 2010 Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead residency program, at Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C., and as a part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz for Young People program.
